WAFLA's day-long event is the premier educational conference on H-2A/farm labor compliance and will leave you more skilled than before you walked in. We've partnered with them for years because, in the heat of the HR moment — when you're stressed — you're not going to remember everything you learned, but your farm's HR software should — and Harvust will. I attend so we can build the best practices taught by experts into our software to protect your farm. Here's what I'm looking forward to most:
Oregon Summit
November 13, 2025
Salem, OR
- Nuts and Bolts of a Strong Job Description - Ryan Kunkel / Sarah Wixson (WA only)
- As we see more enforcement on domestic recruitment and increased activist pressure, it'll be even more important to ensure the roles you're hiring for are well-defined. Some states have recently passed laws mandating job posting contain wage ranges, and other information. You do not want to get caught up in the crosshairs of these and fined for a technicality. Absolutely critical to nail this these days. It also helps set expectations for the farmworker and provides clarity for compliant termination.
- Workers' Comp: Claim Management and Cost Control - Gwen Perkins
- Comp insurance rates always seem to go up, but your farm's injury history can significantly change how much your bottomline is affected. We helped one of our growers lower their workers' comp rates by 40%, despite overall rates going up! We can do even more, so I went to hear what strategies we can build into the Harvust app. There are also some programs like "light duty" which seem to be a good thing, but can potentially land you in legal trouble, so I'm curious to learn more about when the payoff is there vs when it is too risky.
Washington Summit
November 20, 2025
Yakima, WA
- State of Immigration & the Future of E-Verify - Leon Sequeira, Eamon Roach
- Talk about a whipsaw these days! Luckily, Leon's got a realistic, level-headed vision for what we need to pay attention to and what we can ignore. And he's got hilarious delivery to boot! I'm specifically looking for anything that can help Harvust improve our farmworker onboarding tool, to make it even faster and even more compliant for our growers.
- H-2A Prohibited Fees, Mitigation, and Recruitment Best Practices
- This is one of those areas where the employer has very little control but retains all the liability. So I'm looking to see what strategies the panel advocates for growers, specifically, I want to know what can be done domestically to protect the farm.
- Wage & Hour in Agriculture: What’s Changing and Why It Matters - Kalen Fraser, Sean Worley
- While I'll be in another session during this breakout slot, this is one I wish I could attend! These rules are always changing, and everyone I talk to thinks they are calculating things "the right way" and everyone else is wrong. Sean always gives clarity to this subject. Definitely hit this one up!
- Tech-Driven Compliance: Managing Your Ag Workforce Smarter
- I'll actually be participating in this panel! Roxana has gathered a group of tech providers covering different and overlapping parts of labor management, from farmworker onboarding to time tracking to data and predictive analytics. Although these technologies require an investment, many offer a solid ROI. This panel will undoubtedly help you identify the areas where you can achieve that return on investment. That investment can be magnified when paired with other natively integrating technology. That's an area we take very seriously at Harvust; to that end we're integrated with several time tracking companies.
If you're interested in learning how Harvust can save you time by combining the expertise learned from WAFLA with technology, track me down at the conference and let's chat! I'll see you there!
